Who we are

Hampstead Classical Society aims to promote interest in Classics and Ancient Philosophy. These include works from the ancient world, written in Latin and Ancient Greek, ranging from history to literature and philosophy. We are a membership based society. The meetings are in person to bring people together and foster a sense of community. Membership is £20 per annum.

To join the HCS please email membershiphampsteadclassical@gmail.com and state your interest in the Classics and Philosophy.

Members are entitled to our monthly newsletter and 5 events per year with eminent scholars.

Members are also entitled to attend the philosophical provisions offered by the HCS. In 2025-2026 there will be a five evening course on Plato's Symposium. To enrol, please email membershiphampsteadclassical@gmail.com

Previous knowledge of Ancient Greek and Latin is required as we will be reading texts in the original language.

I founded Hampstead Classical Society because noble disciplines such as Classics and Ancient Philosophy are in decline in the West. Yet these disciplines help explaining human emotions, thinking, and actions.
